RAICES

Raíces (“roots”) provides a space for Latine teens to share time with peers in a culturally responsive environment.

Raíces works with Latine youth in grades 6–12 through in- and out-of-school programs emphasizing academic support, personal and cultural identity, health and wellness, and leadership development. Raices youth develop a strong sense of self as multicultural, bilingual individuals who think critically and make healthy positive decisions.

Raíces teens with Latine artists Leilani Mendoza and Andres Guzman, created a community mural in a project sponsored by Friends of the Institute and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. We invite you to watch the video!

DEEPENING OUR ROOTS: LIVE AT THE SPARK SUMMIT!

In 2017, Raíces youth presented “Deepening Our Roots: How to Strengthen the Voices of Community through Podcasts” at Youthprise’s Spark Summit. This event was dedicated to the power of youth digital storytelling.

In this episode, Raices teens talk about the importance of sexual health education

Bilingual, culturally-centered, evidenced-based sexual health education is an important part of Raices programming. Here youth share what they’ve learned as well as some important information they want others their age to know.

Interview with Artist Gustavo Lira:

“Whatever you do, however old you are, no matter what,
never forget your raíces (roots).”
