Throughout the 2016-17 school year, a group of middle school youth from Centro Tyrone Guzman worked with podcaster, Filiberto Nolasco Gomez, to produce a youth-driven podcast series about the Latine experience in Minneapolis. Through the process, the youth explored different genres of podcasts and learned technical skills, such as how to conduct interviews, use a microphone, and edit podcast tracks. They led all activities, including planning, choosing topics, recording, editing, and producing the content. The resulting podcast episodes – more coming soon!- cover topics ranging from art to teen health to the impact of current policies on the lives of Latine youth and their families. We look forward to engaging more of our youth in publishing additional episodes and using podcasts as a tool for learning and civic engagement. Listen to the First Episode here.
